What is Copper Beacon?

The Copper Beacon datapack adds a new beacon base material to Minecraft: copper blocks. In vanilla Minecraft, beacons can only be powered using iron, gold, diamond, emerald, or netherite blocks as the pyramid base. This datapack expands that list to include copper blocks, giving players an additional and often more accessible option for building beacon pyramids.

Copper is abundant in Minecraft caves and can be found at all underground levels, making it much easier to collect than diamonds or emeralds. This datapack is perfect for players who want to build multiple beacons without exhausting their rare material reserves. Whether you're setting up a mega-base with dozens of beacons or simply want a cheaper alternative to traditional beacon materials, copper beacons provide a practical and aesthetically unique solution.

How copper beacons work

Building a Copper Beacon
  • Craft copper blocks from 9 copper ingots each (same as iron/gold blocks)
  • Build a pyramid base using copper blocks (1×1, 3×3, 5×5, 7×7, or 9×9)
  • Place a beacon on top of the center of the pyramid
  • The beacon will activate and provide powers just like traditional beacons
  • Mix copper blocks with other valid beacon base blocks (iron, gold, etc.) if desired
Beacon Pyramid Sizes
  • Level 1 (9 blocks): 3×3 base - 1 power available
  • Level 2 (34 blocks): 5×5 + 3×3 base - 1 primary power
  • Level 3 (83 blocks): 7×7 + 5×5 + 3×3 base - 2 powers available
  • Level 4 (164 blocks): 9×9 + 7×7 + 5×5 + 3×3 base - 2 powers + secondary effect
Copper Block Advantages
  • Abundance: Copper ore generates frequently at Y-levels 0-96
  • Easy Mining: Copper requires only a stone pickaxe to mine
  • Large Veins: Copper ore veins are typically large (10-20 blocks)
  • Renewable: Drowned mobs can drop copper ingots
  • Cost Effective: Build multiple beacons without exhausting diamond/emerald supplies
  • Unique Aesthetic: Orange copper blocks create distinctive beacon pyramids
Material Comparison

For a full Level 4 pyramid (164 blocks required):

  • Diamond Blocks: 1,476 diamonds (nearly impossible for most players)
  • Emerald Blocks: 1,476 emeralds (extremely difficult to obtain)
  • Gold Blocks: 1,476 gold ingots (time-consuming to mine)
  • Iron Blocks: 1,476 iron ingots (more achievable but still significant)
  • Copper Blocks: 1,476 copper ingots (abundant and easy to collect!)

Installation guide

Step-by-step installation
  • Download the datapack file from the Google Drive link above
  • Open your Minecraft folder: Press Win+R on Windows, type %appdata%\\.minecraft, and press Enter
  • Navigate to saves folder, then your world folder, then the datapacks subfolder
  • Place the downloaded file directly into the datapacks directory (keep it as .zip)

How to use the datapack
  • The datapack works automatically after installation - no commands needed
  • Copper blocks will be recognized as valid beacon base blocks
  • Build pyramids using only copper, or mix copper with other valid blocks
  • All beacon powers (Speed, Haste, Resistance, Jump Boost, Strength, Regeneration) work normally
  • Compatible with existing beacons - won't break your current beacon setups

Frequently asked questions

Do copper beacons work exactly like normal beacons?
Yes! Copper beacons function identically to traditional beacons. They provide all the same power effects (Speed, Haste, Resistance, Jump Boost, Strength, Regeneration) and have the same range and power levels. The only difference is you can use copper blocks as the pyramid base material.
Can I mix copper blocks with other beacon base blocks?
Yes! You can mix copper blocks with iron, gold, diamond, emerald, and netherite blocks in the same pyramid. The beacon doesn't care which valid blocks you use - any combination works. This is useful if you run out of one material partway through building.
Does this work with oxidized copper blocks?
This depends on how the datapack was coded. Most versions only recognize regular copper blocks, not exposed, weathered, or oxidized variants. You can test this by building with different copper stages. If it doesn't work with oxidized copper, use waxed copper blocks to prevent oxidation.
How much copper do I need for a full beacon?
For a Level 4 pyramid (maximum power): 164 copper blocks = 1,476 copper ingots. For a Level 1 pyramid (minimum power): 9 copper blocks = 81 copper ingots. Copper is abundant underground, so gathering this amount is much easier than collecting diamonds or emeralds.
Does this work on multiplayer servers?
Yes! Install the datapack on your server's world datapacks folder and restart or use /reload. All players on the server will be able to use copper blocks for beacon pyramids. Perfect for community servers where resources need to be distributed among many players.
What Minecraft versions does this support?
This datapack works with Minecraft Java Edition 1.17 and above (when copper was added to Minecraft). It has been tested on 1.17, 1.18, 1.19, 1.20, and 1.21. Does NOT work on Bedrock Edition or versions before 1.17.
